Secret killings might affect militants’ families, warns Hasina

08 June,2016

RTNN News Desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said the family members of the militants might also be affected for the secret killings carried out by their relatives, particularly for killing the family member of police official.

The prime minister made the statement while addressing the parliament on Wednesday morning.

She said: “Those who are now attacking family members [of police officer], should not forget that they also have families, parents, siblings and wives. If such attack continues, they [family members of militants] can also be affected by their actions.”

The prime minister issued the warning a day after three suspected members of a militant outfit were killed in “gunfights” with members of law enforcement agencies on Tuesday and in the backdrop of a string of targeted killings, especially those of religious minority people.

Mahmuda Akter Mitu, wife of Babul Akter, superintendent of police of Police Headquarters, was stabbed and shot dead by bike-riding assailants in the port city of Chittagong on Sunday.

Referring to Mitu's killing, Hasina requested the family members of those murderers to refrain their relatives from carrying such incidents.

Replying to a query of a ruling party lawmaker, she said all the secret killings were conducted in a similar manner. “They [militants] had been killing people in mosques, temples, pagodas, and teachers of universities and now they have killed a family member of a police officer,” she added.

She assured the lawmakers of ensuring exemplary punishment to the culprits.

Pointing at opposition parties, the prime minister said those who had killed and burnt people in 2013 and 2014 have taken the path of 'secret killings’ after they failed to foil the last national elections.
