13 June,2016

RTNN News Desk: Police said Monday they have arrested more than 8,000 people in a nationwide crackdown on militants launched after a series of murders targeting minorities and secular activists.

Police spokesman Kamrul Ahsan said 3,245 more suspects had been arrested in the last 24 hours, raising the total number to 8,192 since the campaign began on Friday.

A good number of activists of opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami were amongst the people arrested, according to media correspondents in districts and news agencies.

BNP alleged that the law enforcers were mainly arresting general people and opposition activists in the drive having failed to track down militancy suspects.

Most of the arrested were accused in different cases like violence, arson attack, drug peddling, police officials claimed.
