PM to depart for Saudi Arabia today

RTNN News Desk: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will leave Dhaka on Friday afternoon for Jeddah on a five-day official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) at the invitation of King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

This would be the first visit of the Bangladesh prime minister to Saudi Arabia after the swearing-in of Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud as the King.

A VVIP Flight of Biman Bangladesh Airlines carrying the Prime Minister and her entourage members will take off from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at about 4:00pm.

The flight is expected to reach Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport at about 8:00pm local time on Friday.

According to her visit schedule, the Premier would be conferred an honour guard by a military contingent of the kingdom on her arrival in Jeddah.

Bangladesh Ambassador to the KSA and Permanent Representative to the OIC Golam Masih and a senior representative of the Saudi government would receive Sheikh Hasina at the airport.

The prime minister is set to stay at Jeddah Royal Conference Palace during her visit there.

The Prime Minister will perform the holy ‘umrah’ at Haram Sharif in Makkah tonight and offer Fazr prayers on Saturday.

She is likely to lay the foundation stone of Bangladesh Chancery Complex and Bangladesh House, Riyadh through a function at Jeddah on Saturday evening.

On Sunday afternoon, Sheikh Hasina will hold bilateral talks with the Saudi King at the Al Salam Palace at Al Andalus in Jeddah where entire gamut of bilateral interest, regional and international issues would be discussed.

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Nayef bin Abdulaziz is expected to welcome Sheikh Hasina at the palace.

‘Expansion of Bangladesh labour market in Saudi Arabia, bilateral trade, Saudi support for uplift projects and Hajj management would dominate bilateral talks between Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud during her Saudi visit on 3-7 June,’ Foreign Minister AH Mahmood Ali told a news briefing in Dhaka on Wednesday.

He said the Prime Minister will lead a delegation comprising the foreign minister, senior officials, members of the elite and a business group during the visit.

Earlier in the morning on Sunday, a number of Saudi ministers and senior officials would call on Sheikh Hasina at Jeddah Royal Conference Palace.

Saudi Deputy Minister for Defence Salman bin Sultan Al Saud and Advisor of the Royal Council of the Saudi King Yaser Al Mian will call on the Premier in the evening at the same palace.

On Monday morning, the Prime Minister will leave Jeddah for Madina by air and stay at Madina Hilton.

Sheikh Hasina would offer Asr and Maghrib prayers at Masjid-e Nababi in Madina and offer ziarat of Rawza Mubarak of Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (PBUH).

The Prime Minister will leave Prince Mohammad bin Abdulaziz Airport in Madina for home at 10.30 am on Tuesday morning. She is scheduled to reach Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at about 7.30 pm (BST) the same day.

Sheikh Hasina visited Saudi Arabia on April 2009 after assuming office as the Prime Minister at the invitation of the then King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz.

She also a paid a visit to Saudi Arabia in November in 2013 to perform ‘umrah’.
